Susanna, widow of John K. Loomis, passed away at 11 o'clock this morning at her home in Wilmington, Delaware, following a brief illness. She would have been 98 years of age in July.
Mrs. Loomis was born in West Whiteland Township, a daughter of the late Cheyney and Mary E. Townsend. As a young woman she taught school at Harmony Hill. Following her marriage, she moved to West Chester in 1872, the family later moving to Wilmington, Delaware. Her husband died in 1914.
Through her long life, she had enjoyed excellent health, and maintained an interest in current events until very recently.
She was the mother of seven sons, six of whom were born in West Chester. Of these, four survive, Frank O., of West Chester; Ruel S., Esau H. and Dallett H., of Wilmington. There are three granddaughters, Mrs. Edna Swayne and Miss Florence S. Loomis, of West Chester, and Mrs. Anna Miller, of Bath, New York. Two great-grandsons, Bayard E. Swayne, of West Chester, and Dr. George E. Miller, of Bath, New York, and two great-great-grandchildren, Susan and Barbara Swayne, of West Chester, also survive.She was a member of the Brandywine Methodist Church, of Wilmington, Delaware.
She was the last of her family, a sister, Mrs. James Y. Marshall, of Compass, having died two years ago at the age of 94 years.
