Notes for James ROSS

He was among the first to raise a company of fighting men in Lancaster County . As Captain he marched to Cambridge , Massachusetts early in the war to come to the aid of the forces there . He rose in rank to be Lt. Colonel of the Eighth Regiment of Pennsylvania , which fought in the Battle of Brandywine . He also distinguished himself in the Battle of Long Island , Trenton , and Germantown . ( Harrises History of Lancaster County ) .
