Notes for Joseph RICHARDSON
Joseph Richardson, who married, October, 1745, Sarah, eldest surviving daughter of William and Sarah (Dury) Morris, was a son of John and Ann Richardson, and was born at the family residence on Christiana creek, 10mo. (December) 6, 1706. His father had expected him to join him in the West India trade and had built him a house at Christiana, but he settled in Philadelphia, where he became a prominent business man, filling many positions of trust and representing the city in the Colonial Assembly from 1763 to his death, November 17, 1770. His wife, Sarah Morris, died about a year after her marriage and soon after the birth of their only child, and he never remarried.
