Notes for Sydney Macalester HUEY
Sydney Macalester Lowndes of Palm Beach, FL died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015 at home. She was 94. Mrs. Lowndes was the daughter of Malcolm Sidney Huey and Emily Hibbard Huey of Chestnut Hill, PA. She was a member of the Bath & Tennis Club, the Everglades Club and The Society of the Four Arts. She was married to Tasker Gant Lowndes of Baltimore, MD until his death in 2006. Mrs. Lowndes was married to Paul Roberts of Villanova, PA, the father of her three daughters. He died in 1970. She was married to P. Shaw Sprague of Boston, Cape Elizabeth, ME and Palm Beach from 1972 until his death in 1977. Mrs. Lowndes is survived by her daughters, Sydney Roberts Shuman and husband Stanley S. Shuman of New York, Gail Roberts “Robin” Ashford and husband Theodore H. Ashford of Wilmington, DE, and Diana Roberts Slocum and husband John J. Slocum Jr. of Newport, RI. She also is survived by her six beloved grandsons, Gordon Roberts Gould and wife Courtney N. Gould of Venice, CA; Howard Bacon Gould of Darien, CT; Forrester Andrew Clark lll and wife Csilla N. Clark of Wenham, MA; Cameron Burrage Clark and wife Erin M. Clark of Middletown, RI; Matthew Roberts Clark of South Hamilton, MA; and Lawrence Lewis Gillespie Slocum of Newport, RI; and seven great grandchildren. A private service and burial was held at The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, Bryn Mawr, PA. Memorial contributions may be sent to The Episcopal Church of the Redeemer, 230 Pennswood Road, Bryn Mawr, PA 19010 or the Advanced Medical Research Foundation, 1101 Beacon Street, Brookline, MA 02446 in memory of Mrs. Lowndes.
