Notes for Edith Claypoole SELLERS
Edith Sellers Farnum, 88, a descendant of Samuel Sellers, a Quaker from Derbyshire, England, who settled in this area in 1682, died Friday at the Dunwoody Village Medical Center in Newtown Square after a prolonged illness.
One of Mrs. Farnum's greatest interests was genealogy, and she assembled extensive information on her family and the family of her late husband, Henry W. Farnum Jr., who was marine vice president of the Insurance Company of North America.
She also developed a fascination with creating miniature rooms. Some of the models she fashioned won prizes at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
Mrs. Farnum, who lived in Penn Valley for 52 years before moving to the Dunwoody Village retirement community in 1987, was a 1925 graduate of the Agnes Irwin School, where she later served as a member of the board of directors and president of the Alumni Association.
She was a member of the Church of the Redeemer in Bryn Mawr, and was on the Altar Guild there for many years. She was a member of the Acorn Club and the Planters Garden Club.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna F. Wood; a son, Henry W. Farnum 3d; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held on Monday at the Church of the Redeemer, Pennswood and New Gulph Roads, Bryn Mawr. Interment will follow in the churchyard. The family suggests contributions to the Agnes Irwin School or to the Church of the Redeemer.
