Lt Col in the Revolutionary War.
Owned Valley Forge during the time of General Washington's encampment there. Was married first to Sarah Potts, whose sister Hannah, was married to William's brother Thomas. William died a poor man after his land was ravaged by both American and British troops. They used or burned the trees and heavily damaged the land. William spent many years fighting the government for payment for damage to his property.
