Notes for Spencer ROBERTS
Spencer, in 1835, bought the mill belonging to his father's estate, and operated it until 1858, when he transferred his business to the W. G. Spencer steam mill. He was for years a School Director in the 22nd Ward of Philadelphia (Germantown), and long a member of the Philadelphia Board of Education. He was for a number of years prior to his death President of the Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Germantown. He was a man of superior worth and intelligence, and was was esteemed by all.
