Retired Nashville businessman Archie Boone, the father of entertainer Pat Boone, has died at a Nashville nursing home. He was 93.
Nick Boone, another son, said his father died of congestive heart failure Thursday.
Archie Boone was born in Nashville, but his family moved to New Mexico to homestead when he was 1 year old. The family later moved back east to Memphis.
He moved his young family to Nashville in 1935 and joined his uncle's contracting business, which he took over in the early 1950s. He retired in 1986 at the age of 80.
"People who have done business (with Boone Contracting) . . . will come up and say we did business with a handshake with Archie Boone, because not only did he do quality work, but we could trust him," Nick Boone said.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Belmont Church on Music Row.
He is survived by his two sons; his wife of 67 years, Margaret Pritchard Boone, and two daughters, Margie Corlew of Nashville and Judi Allen of Lewisburg.
