BALDERSTON ROBERT PITFIELD, 94, of Glen Mills, died on Monday January 12, 2009. He was the husband of the late Helen Briggs Balderston. Father of Anne Thayer and her husband William and Barbara Blum and her husband Larry; grandfather of Samantha Blum. Predeceased by his son, Richard Balderston. Relatives and friends are invited to his Memorial Meeting, 1 P.M., Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Middletown Friends Meeting, 435 Middle-town Rd. (Rt 352), Lima PA. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Middletown Friends Meeting, c/o Joseph Stratton, Treasurer, 1631 E. Street Rd., Glen Mills PA 19342.

Robert Pitfield Balderston, 94, of Glen Mills, died on Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, at Kendal at Longwood.
Bob was the husband of the late Helen Briggs Balderston.
Born in Fallingston, he was the son of the late William Henry and Mary Lovett Balderston.
In 1924, Bob's mother started Fairhope Orchard at the intersection of routes 926 and 352. In 1935, Bob took over the farm where he lived for 81 years.
A birthright Quaker, Bob was a lifelong active member of the Middletown Friends Meeting.
Bob was also a past president of the Delaware County Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service, the Chester-Delaware County Fruit Growers, the Delaware County Agriculture Extension Service, and the Chester County Farm Bureau.
His other activities included being a general committee member of Westtown School and chairman of the Lake, Forest and Ground Committee. In addition, he was a Thornbury, Delaware County, supervisor.
Managing his orange and grapefruit groves in Florida, international travel and annual vacations in Florida were Bob's favorite interests.
He is survived by his two daughters, Anne Thayer and her husband, William, of Kennett Square, and Barbara Blum and her husband, Larry, of Great Falls, Va.; and his granddaughter, Samantha Blum.
Bob was preceded in death by his son, Richard Balderston.
Relatives and friends are invited to his memorial meeting at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Middletown Friends Meeting, 435 Middletown Road (Route 352), Lima.
