Notes for Noah GARRETT
Noah was a private in Company "C" of the 18th Regiment of Wisconsin Infantry Volunteer was enlisted into military service on the 6th day of December 1861 by Captain Newton M. Layne at Viroqua, Wisconsin for the term of 3 years was mustered into the military service of the United States on the 19th day of january 1861, by Captain J. M. Trowbridge at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The records give his birthplace as Ohio and lists his place of residence as Viroqua, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Company "C" reported him sick during May and June, 1863 at Grand Gulf, Mississippi and during June and July, 1863 at a Millikens Bend, Louisianna hospital (Van Buren). His term of service included participation in the battle of Corinth; and, he died while yet in the hospital (other records indicated he died of Typhoid Fever) on the 27th day of July, 1863, at Millikens Bend. The records indicate he is buried in Section "B" grave #2651 of the Vicksburg, Mississippi cemetary. The records further show that said soldier when enlisted was 39 years of age, married, had gray eyes, sandy hair, sandy complexion, was 5 feet 10 inches in height, and by occupation was a farmer.
