Notes for John BROOME
JOHN BROME, Colonel, b. 1727; studied law and was admitted to the bar when but nineteen years old; Captain of Calvert County Militia, 1654-57-58; in 1757 was ordered to join the English forces under Braddock, with his command; for service in this expedition he received large grants of wilderness land in Western Maryland and Virginia, from which his descendants of the present day (1907) are receiving substantial revenues; removed from Calvert County to his grants in the western part of the State; was the first to spell his name Broome; m. Mary MACKALL.
