Notes for John BROOME

JOHN BROME, b. 1775; was a vestryman of Christ Church, and signs himself Captain in 1810-15; was First Lieutenant in Captain James Duke's Company of Militia, 1806; served with distinction in the War of 1812-14; commanded a body of militia when Commander Barney was in command of his "Fleet" in the Patuxent River; he quartered his troops in his own home and supplied his commissary department from his own estates; the British burned his residence with all its valuable contents; m. in 1805 his cousin, Ann WILSON.
