Notes for Joseph Lynch CANBY
highly decorated veteran of World War I;
husband of Mary Willa Kendall; son of Caleb H & Jane Lynch Canby
* Lt Joseph L Canby of Chicago, who, with five other Americans, was decorated with the Croix de Guerre by Premier Clemenceau for bravery under fire. Lt Canby's exploit was particularly daring. Going "over the top" in daylight, into No Man's Land, he captured unaided a German prisoner while exposed to the fire of the enemy.
