Notes for GIDEON MARKLE:
Gideon born and raised in Milton, Northumberland, Pennsylvania. He was a storekeeper in sunbury, Pennsylvania. Gideon died by an injury he received by a runaway horse of his on the morning of Friday, March 7, 1851. This information was found in the Sunbury Gazette. Also on January 20, 1866, in the Shamokin Canal Boat, issue of April 24, 1830, was found the following: Mr. Gideon Markle, storekeeper, married Mary Robins, daughter of the deceased Thomas Robins, of Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Gideon also had possession of the Bible of his grandfather, Peter Markle, which was later given to Mrs. Alvan Markle, Jr. of Hazleton, Pennsylvania, who was gathering information on the Markle family tree. Both Gideon and Mary are buried in sunbury. Some of the information gathered here was taken from the Memorial Windows in the St. Mathews Episcopal Church in Sunbury, Pa.
He was killed in a runaway accident caused by an organ grinder playing his organ coming up over a hill & meeting him, scaring his spirited horses, of which he was a great lover. He was not killed outright, but died from the effects of his hurts. Georgia says she was once with her grandmother Katie Follmer when an organ grinder appeared & she made them drive him off, as she never after countenanced them because of having caused the death of her favorite brother. He died early in 1851
