Notes for Egidius GRIM

Egidius "Geitte" or "Gideon" Grim and his wife, Anna Catharine Grim, from Wurtemburg, Germany, who emigrated to America and landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 11,1728 and settled in Macungie Township, Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, where he secured many acres of land. He was one of the founders of Ziegel's Church near Weisemberg. He was of the Lutheran congregation and became a most active member. His wife, Anna Catharine, preceded him in death. She was a very educated woman. During a storm at sea on their voyage to America, she wrote the German hymn used in the General Synod of the Lutheran Church of America to this day, "Nur in Vergnuglichkeit is mein Friedenszeit". They had five children: Jacob: Henry; Catharine, who married Peter Markle; Elizabeth, who married Gaspard Markle, a brother to Peter; and Margaret Grim.
