PEALE, FRANKLIN, d. at Phil.; May 5, 1870, a. 75; son of Charles Wilson Peale , in 1833; was appointed assistant assayer of the U. S. mint, and afterwards held the office of melter, refiner and chief coiner; left the mint in 1854.
