Notes for Rebecca TINNEY

According to her obituary, Rebecca Tinney was born in County Donegal, Ireland. Her father died when she was only two weeks old. She and her brother were brought up in the United States by her mother. Her early life was spent in Philadelphia and Elkton, Md.

She married Robert Scott in Philadelphia. They had six sons and two daughters, all of whom survived her with the exception of one son who died in infancy.

In her girlhood, she attended the Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. She had among her cherished possession two medals, one for nine years and one for twelve years of regular attendance at the Sabbath School.

In February of 1883, she came with her husband and family to Cozad, Nebraska settling on a farm six miles east of Cozad where she has made her home until she was called to her Heavenly home.

When she came to Nebraska, she and her husband were instrumental in organizing the Grace M.E. Church which was named for the Grace Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia, to which they both belonged.

Beside a number of relatives in the east, she leaves to mourn her loss, her husband, Robert M. Scott, two daughters, Mrs. Charles S. Wells of Lexington NE, Mrs. Fred Hall of Rock Springs, Wyoming, five sons, William T., Frank H., John M., James E., and Raymond S., all of Cozad, and twelve grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

She was a loving wife and mother and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances. She will be sadly missed in her home, her church and her community. Though gone and missed, yet being dead she lives on.
