Notes for Henry Ustick ONDERDONK

Bishop Henry Ustick Onderdonk graduated from Columbia College, N. Y., in 1805; studied medicine in London and Edinburgh; received degree of M. D. from University of Edinburgh; was associate editor, with Valentine Mott, of the N. Y. Medical Journal; deacon 1815; priest in 1816; rector of St. Anne's, Brooklyn, L. I., 1820; consecrated Bishop Oct. 25, 1827. He wrote several works; some of the more noted are "Episcopacy Tested by Scripture," "Episcopacy Examined," and "Sermons." He was author of many of the hymns in the Protestant Episcopal Hymnal.
