Benjamin was a leading businessman of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, founder and head of the widely known firm of B. G. Carpenter and Company, a Trustee of Wyoming Seminary in Kingston, Pennsylvania. He was also a Manager of the Wilkes-Barre Water Company and a Director of the Scranton, Pennsylvania Stove Works.
