CASSIN, JOHN, naturalist, author, was born Sept. 6, 1813, in Chester, Pa. He was a naturalist of Philadelphia whose American Ornithology is a continuation of
Audubon's work on that subject. Other works of his are Ornithology of the Japan
Expedition; Mammalogy and Ornithology of the Wilkes Exploring Expedition;
Illustrations of the Birds of California, Texas, etc.; and A General Synopsis of North American Ornithology. He died Jan. 10, 1869, in Philadelphia, Pa.
