Notes for Anthony III MORRIS

Anthony Morris, brewer, of Philadelphia, PA, b. in London, England d. in Philadelphia, PA; received his scholastic education at the Public School in Philadelphia, which his father, with other "friends" of the Monthly Meeting, had been instrumental in founding in 1680. At the age of fourteen apprenticed himself to learn the art and mysteries of brewing, to serve for seven years from 29 February in the year 1695/96. In 1721 was chosen a Representative in the assembly in the Province of Pennsylvania; re-elected 1721-1722-1723 and 1725, and sat until the close of the session 6th June, 1726; was appointed one of the signers of paper money; elected Alderman 29 September, 1726; again 2nd October, 1733 and same day commissioned an Associate Justice of the City Court; his will dated 29th September, 1760, is sealed with his crest.
