Notes for Doris TALLEY
Doris Talley Black, proud to be a lifelong Wilmingtonian, died on June 3, 2011.
Mrs. Black was born in Wilmington to the late Earle J. and Ida M. Talley. She graduated from P.S. duPont High School and received her medical technology training at the University of Pennsylvania after which she worked at the Delaware (now Wilmington) Hospital. Mrs. Black stayed at home to raise her daughter, volunteering for the American Red Cross and the Tatnall School, until her daughter left for college.
She then became one of the "founding docents" of the Nemours Mansion where she served as a guide from its opening in 1976 to 2006. She also served as a guide for many years at the Delaware History Museum.
Mrs. Black was a descendent of one of the early Swedish settlers who sailed to Wilmington on the Kalmar Nyckel, a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Caesar Rodney Chapter, and a member of the Delaware Historical Society.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Charles T. Black; their daughter, Sheriden Talley Black; and two grandsons, Peter T.B. and Malcolm T.B. Godshall.
