Notes for Christopher Jr. MARSHALL

Christopher Marshall, Jr. was the second son. He entered the drug establishment of his father at the age of 25, and also was deeded over several of his father's real estate holdings. He also was
involved in the shipping business with his brother. Like his father, he was generous in hospitality to the delegates to the Continental Congress. One entry in his father's diary mentions, "My son Christopher sent me a present of a small keg of pickled oysters, and requested my coming to sup at his house this evening, the which I complied with, and spent the evening in innocent, cheerful, conversation with John Adams, Thomas Cushing, Samuel Adams, and Robert Treat Paine, delegates from Boston." He and his brother Charles furnished a large amount of medicines and surgical supplies, "for the use of different battalions of Continental forces." Their patriotic service was noted by the Continental Congress. He, as well as his father, are recognized DAR ancestors. One letter of Christopher, Jr., to his father tells sadly, "I am now at Brother Benny's and have been up with him these two last nights past to attend him in his illness, which I have been anxious to communicate to thee. . .but the passage over the River has been obstructed by floating Ice. Dr. Morgan and Hutchinson who attended him declare it to be the Putrid Fever. ."
Benjamin died a day or two later. Christopher married three times, first to Ann Eddy, second to [BO:Elizabeth Flower:BO], and last to Margaret Roberts. He had a total of eleven children, but only four
daughters and one son survived to maturity.
