Notes for Isaac Jones WISTAR
WISTAR, ISAAC JONES, soldier, lawyer, was born Nov. 14, 1827, in Philadelphia, Pa. He entered the national army in 1861 as a captain in a regiment of Pennsylvania volunteers, and served in Maryland and Virginia, and was commissioned brigadier-general of volunteers. After the war he resumed practice, and is now president of a canal company and several coal companies in Pennsylvania.
War Record- 1861 recruited a company of volunteers - Capt., the unit became part of 71st Pennsylvania (California Regiment), Lt. Col., Ball's Bluff, November 1861 Col., Peninsula campaign, Antietam (wounded), November 1862 appointed Brig. Gen. of Volunteers, commanded reserve brigade of Getty's division at Suffolk, commanded 2nd Bde/2nd Divn/XVIII Corps at Bermuda hundred, September 1864 resigned.
Post-war career- Lawyer, coal businessman, writer and speaker on penology.
