Notes for Henry McComb WINCHESTER

Henry McComb Winchester, Jr. of Greenville, DE died peacefully at the age of 91 on Sunday, December 22 with his family by his side.

A native Delawarean, Mr. Winchester graduated from Archmere Academy as a member of the Class of 1940. He was a graduate of the University of Delaware, where he was president of his senior class and of his Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity chapter. As a captain in the United States Army, Mr. Winchester was a member of the World War II War Crimes Investigation Team in Germany. He attended the George Washington University and the University of Pennsylvania schools of law.

Mr. Winchester was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia DiSabatino Winchester, and by his parents, Henry McComb Winchester, Sr. and Anne O'Toole Winchester. His brother Richard Winchester passed away on December 23.

Mr. Winchester is survived by his sister, Jane Winchester Asbill Graham; his brother David Winchester; his daughters, Paula Mutzel (Rodger), Joan (Scott Walker) and Judith, and his son, Henry McComb Winchester, III (Joan). He is also survived by four grandchildren: Alexandra Walsh (David), Henry "Mac" Winchester IV, Stephanie Winchester and James Winchester; three great grand-children, Drake, Sam, and Evangeline Walsh; a foster grandson, Avis Willis, and family; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family wishes to thank Stonegates Retirement Community, where Mr. Winchester renewed old acquaintances and made new friends. We are grateful to the residence staff and to the nursing staff for caring for him so lovingly during his stay in Health Care.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 o'clock on January 9, 2014 for Henry and Richard Winchester at St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, 10 Old Church Rd., Greenville, DE. The family will receive friends at the church beginning at 9:30. Burial will be private.
