Notes for Wilhelmina Laird STABLER

Wilhelmina Stabler Bergland, 83, died peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 26, 2012 in Litchfield, CT.

Born in Old Hickory, TN on November 2, 1928, she is the daughter of the late Winder Laird and Jane Ramsay Stabler. She is the wife of the late Charles Beale Bergland and is survived by her sisters, Cornelia Stabler Canby and Caroline Stabler Applegate and her husband Robert Stephens Applegate of Greenville, DE, and sister-in-law, Margaretta Kitchel Stabler of Montchanin, DE. She is predeceased by her sister, Jane Stabler Evans and brother, Winder Laird Stabler, Jr. She is also survived by her son, Scott Bergland and daughter-in-law, Vicki of Aptos, CA, son, Brooke Bergland of Albuquerque, NM, son, Eric Bergland and daughter-in-law, Charlene of Middlebury, VT, daughter, Wilhelmina Bergland of Canton, CT, daughter, Caroline and son-in-law, Chris King of Litchfield, CT; grandchildren, Lauren, Brooke, Elizabeth, Tyler, Anders, Sarah, Stuart and Lillian; and great-grandchildren, Haylie and Memphis.

She grew up in Wilmington, DE and was a graduate of Tower Hill School and Westover School in Middlebury, CT. After marrying in 1950, she settled in CT to raise her family. Upon retiring, she and her husband split their time between CT and Cat Island, SC. She loved entertaining and hosting family gatherings where she was often found at the piano. She was an avid tennis player, skilled needlepointer, and a caring and compassionate woman.

Her family wishes to thank the Visiting Nurse Assoc. of NW CT and dear friends for their heartfelt support.

A memorial reception for family and friends will be held at 5:30 pm on Friday, Sept. 28 at the Inn at Montchanin at 514 Montchanin Rd., Wilmington, DE.
