Notes for Joseph Howard CLOUD

Dr. J. Howard Cloud, a physician for more than 50 years and a descendant of one of the earliest American Quaker families, died Saturday at his home, Alden Park Manor, Wissahickon Ave. and School House Lane. He was 95.

Dr. Cloud was born on May 1, 1872, in West Philadelphia, the known as Hestonville, graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1892. He began his practice in the coal regions of the Lehigh Valley and in 1901 went to Ardmore, where he remained for 50 years, most of them at 11 W. Montgomery Ave.

RETIRED IN 1947

He served as a medical officer in the First World War in France and was a member of the staff of Bryn Mawr Hospital from 1906 to his retirement in 1947.

A birthright member of the Society of Friends, Dr. Cloud was a sixth-generation descendant of Jeremiah Cloud, a Quaker who arrived on the same ship as William Penn in 1682.

Dr. Cloud's grandfather, Joseph Cloud, fought in the Revolutionary War.

SURVIVORS LISTED

Dr. Cloud was a member of the Montgomery County Medical Society, American Medical Association and a Fellow of the College of Physicians.

Surviving are his wife, the former Elisabeth Valentine Perot; a son, Dr. Laurence Cloud; a daughter, Mrs. Victor C. Vaughan, and three grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at the Germantown Friends Meeting House, 47 W. Coulter St. Burial will be private.
