Notes for William Sharples PIERSON

William S. Pierson, passed away Sunday, September 13, 2015. He was born March 14, 1926 in Wilmington, Delaware and raised by his loving parents Emma and Wilson on his family's Hockessin farm. He is survived by his wife Katherine, son Gerald, daughter Nancy, brother, sister, two grandchildren, along with many beloved nieces and nephews. He graduated from Conrad High School in 1944 and briefly pursued an interest in the poultry industry, later raising mushrooms. He later joined Longwood Gardens of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, as a grower and manager of the aquatic plant collection, the Palm House and Tropical Plants display. He was a charter member of the Waterlily Society and received commendations and world-wide recognition for his work in aqua culture. A memorial service will be held on September 19, 2015 at 2 pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 40 Old Newark Road, Newark, DE 19713.
