Eli J. Entrikin, age 85, of Topeka passed away Sunday, March 2, 2008 at a Topeka care home. He was born April 20, 1922 in rural Cameron, Missouri, the son of Eli Emmor and Elizabeth Smith Entrikin. He attended Cameron High School. He served in the United States Navy during W.W.II and was discharged in 1946. Eli retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1982 after 29 years of service. He also operated Elis Custom Tractor Work, a landscaping business for many years. Eli married Lois McBrayer on September 21, 1946 in Oskaloosa. She preceded him in death August 22, 2002. Eli was a member of Northland Christian Church and the Topeka Camping Club. He performed in various bands throughout the years, including his 1950s band, Eli and The Swingsters. In addition to Lois, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Sue Ann Entrikin in 1954 and Joyce Kobes in 1989. He is survived by four daughters, Linda Black and her husband Bill of Carbondale, Karen Scott and her husband, Bruce of Emporia, Sharon Bodle and her husband Don of Dayton, Ohio and Jackie Claassen and her husband Mike of Auburn; a son-in-law, Keith Kobes and his wife, Iris of Fairway; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and his longtime feline companion, Rufus.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at the Davidson Funeral Home. Eli will lie in state Wednesday from noon 9:00 p.m. with family visitation from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Interment will be at Rochester Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Helping Hands Humane Shelter and may be sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home.
