Notes for William Bass SMITH
William Bass Smith was a Lieutenant in the Union Army and wounded in the Battle of Gettysburg. His Civil War Pension application, on 12 Feb 1907, states he was a resident of Elkton, Cecil, Maryland. He enrolled in the service at Elkton, Maryland on 14 Sep 1861 as a private in Company C, 2nd Regiment of Delaware Infantry Volunteers, Army of the Potomac. He was honorably discharged in 30 Jun 1864. He was also a sergeant major, 2nd lieutenant and 1st lieutenant commanding Co. F. Give his birth date 27 May 1842, Philadelphia, PA. The file lists his children and information on his deceased wife Margaret as well as his second wife Annie. All children were living at the time of the application on 18 Mar 1915 except for Norman Creswell Smith. (Information from book "Descendants of John L.
