Notes for Lee III SPARKS

Lee Sparks, III Age 77 of Wilmington. He was the son of Caroline Tatnall Sparks Welles and Lee Sparks, Jr. and the grandson of Frances Dorr Swift Tatnall, the founder of The Tatnall School in Wilmington. Mr. Sparks graduated from the University of Delaware after having served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the Eastern Regional Sales Manager for the Atlas Powder Company, which later became ICI America.
An active participant in community service, Mr. Sparks only recently resigned as a member of the Board of Trustees of The Tatnall School. He had been a member of the Alumni Council of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity at the University of Delaware, and a past chairman and member of the Board of Managers of the YMCA Camp Tockwogh, a branch of the YMCA of Delaware, for many years. He was a hereditary member of the Society of the Cincinnati and attended classes at the Academy of Life Long Learning. He was a devoted fan of UD football, and loved attending his grandchildren's athletic events.
Mr. Sparks is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy M. Sparks; 2 sons, Lee Sparks IV and Robert M. Sparks; daughter-in-law, Joan Marsh Sparks; 2 grandchildren, Caroline Tatnall Sparks and Christopher Lee Sparks, all of Wilmington; 2 sisters, Eleanor Sparks Gambell and Caroline Tatnall Sparks Shafer; numerous nieces and nephews; and many grand nieces and nephews. His sister, Mary Sparks Cook, predeceased him.
A memorial service in his honor will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church, Delaware Ave and Adams St. at 11 am on Friday, January 11, 2002. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that contributions be made to The Tatnall School's Frances Dorr Swift Tatnall Scholarship Fund, 1501 Barley Mill Rd., Wilm., DE 19807.
