Notes for Charlotte TATNALL

Charlotte Tatnall Halloran, 92, died peacefully on September 9, 2014 with her family around her, at her home at Jenner's Pond Retirement Community, West Grove, Pennsylvania.

Charlotte was a mother, a singer and an artist. She was born August 11, 1922 in Wilmington, Delaware; graduated from the Tatnall School in 1940, and from the University of Delaware in 1943. She was a lively, talented, sparkling woman; even to the very end, her smile lit up the room.

Charlotte's life was filled with family, music and art. She met her husband, Joseph A. Halloran (d. 2003), when they were both 24 and participating in a play at the Wilmington Drama League. The first time he walked through the door she said, "that's the man I'm going to marry." Throughout their marriage of 55 years, even while raising their family of six children, they participated in community theater and music; it was a joy to see them dance together!

Music was the fabric of Charlotte's life, and continues to bind her family together. She was an anchor of her church choir, a long-time member of the Brandywiners, Ltd., and an enthusiastic member of the Interpreters, a highly skilled amateur a capella group. There was always music in her house and the children often joined their parents in theater and musical productions. Charlotte was also a talented amateur painter, and her watercolors have given pleasure to many in her family and community.

She was very proud of her large, diverse and close-knit family: her children, Joe D. Halloran (Barbara Henry), Ted (Kathleen) Halloran, Peggy Halloran (John) Watkins, David M. Halloran (Antonia Woods), Charlie G. Halloran (d. 1993), and Nancy S. Halloran (David Couch); and also their children and grandchildren. At her death, she had sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, including brand-new Noah. Charlotte is also survived by her sister Nancy Tatnall Fuller, brother-in-law Jack G. Fuller, Jr., and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Charlotte and Joseph taught their children to love music and art; to be active and engaged in the world; to be open and accepting of others; to try always to do the right thing--and to have fun! She never stopped growing. We are thankful for her life.

Services will be held on Friday, September 12, at the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 300 State Road, West Grove, PA. Visitation will be at the church from 10 - 11 am, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Hockessin, DE.
