Notes for Henry Chase Jr. TATNALL
Henry Chace Tatnall Jr., 71, a retired banker who wrote a book on traffic regulations, died Friday of leukemia in Princeton.
Born and raised in Whitemarsh, Mr. Tatnall considered Philadelphia his "social address" even after moving out of the area, said his wife, Alexandra.
He was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club, the Racquet Club, and the Androssan Beagles in Philadelphia.
Mr. Tatnall graduated from Princeton University and received his master's degree in business administration from C.W. Post University on Long Island.
After serving in the Army in Korea, he was employed by Fidelity-Philadelphia Trust Co. until 1968, when he moved to Princeton and continued his banking career.
His wife said he did a great deal of driving on business trips and after his retirement in 1987 wrote a travel guide about state traffic laws called Seat Belts Required.
He met his wife when she was 19 and he was 21, but their romance was postponed for almost 50 years.
"I was engaged to someone else at the time," she said. "Henry stayed single; every once in a while, we would run into each other. I got divorced, but our romance didn't blossom until a few years ago."
The couple married two years ago and she is his only immediate survivor.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. today at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 Valley Forge Rd., Wayne.
