Mrs. Albert Whipple Morse, Jr., died October 22, 2009
Born in Wilmington in 1912, Mrs. Morse attended the Misses Hebbs School, Tower Hill School, and graduated from Miss Porter's School, Farmington, Connecticut. She was a volunteer in a number of organizations, and for twenty-three years was commander of the Delaware Wing, Civil Air Patrol, with the rank of colonel. As commander of the seven state Middle East Region, Colonel Morse was the first woman to serve on the Civil Air Patrol National Executive Committee. She completed her active service with CAP as National Controller. She was elected to the Civil Air Patrol Hall of Honor in 1982.
Mrs. Morse was an avid computer fan and transcribed oral histories for CAP, the National Society of The Colonial Dames of America in Delaware, and other organizations. She was placed on the Delaware Colonial Dames Roll of Honor in 1998. She also computerized the accession records of the Coastal Georgia Historical Society and the Central New Brunswick (Canada) Woodmen's Museum.
Mrs. Morse's husband, Lieutenant Colonel Albert Whipple Morse, Jr., died in 1979. She is survived by a daughter, Alice Humphrey Morse II, of Chester Springs, PA, a son, William Spruance Morse, of Daytona Beach, FL, and two grandchildren, Lindsey and Matthew Morse of Washington, DC.
There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm on Tuesday October 27, 2009 at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Delaware Avenue and Rodney Street, Wilmington.
Interment will be private.
