Notes for Joseph H. WOLLASTON
Joseph H. Wollaston Sr., 86, of West Grove, Pa., a retired employee of Longwood Gardens who was an avid gardener, died Aug. 13 at home.
Born and reared in the New Garden Township, Pa., Mr. Wollaston lived most of his life in Kennett Square. He attended Kennett Square High School and Goldey Beacom College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a staff sergeant with the 77th Infantry Division. Mr. Wollaston was employed by Longwood Gardens as an electrician until his retirement in 1979 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, serving as deacon and volunteer driver for the Presbyterian Home. Mr. Wollaston was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Kennett Square. He was active in the Longwood Fire Co. until his retirement.
Mr. Wollaston was the son of the late Harvey J. and Eleanora Wollaston and was the brother of the late Jean Oas.
Survivors: Wife of 56 years, Ruth Hall Wollaston; son, Joseph H. Wollaston Jr. of Media; brothers, Leonard Wollaston of East Waterboro, Maine, Thomas Wollaston of Elsmere, Del.; two grandsons.
Service: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Presbyterian Church of Kennett Square, 211 S. Broad St., Kennett Square.
Burial: Longwood Cemetery, Longwood.
