Notes for William Nathan FOLWELL
William Nathan (Nate) Folwell of Dover, DE died at home on December 18, 2011 at the age of 88.
He had been under the care of The Delaware Hospice home program since January 2010.
Nate Folwell was born on November 22, 1923 in Mullica Hill, NJ, the youngest son of Quakers Robert Cook Folwell Jr., legendary football coach and first head coach of the New York Giants, and Elizabeth Pennock Folwell, devoted mother of three sons.
He grew up in Mullica Hill, attending public school there and began attending the Mullica Hill Quaker Meeting at age five.
He left home in 1941 to join the Merchant Marines in the war effort. After his service in World War II, he married Joan Arne from Jamaica, NY.
Nate Folwell worked for about thirty years at the Dupont Chambers Works Plant, Deepwater, NJ. Retiring together in May 1979, Nate and his wife moved to Morehead City, NC. After nearly two decades they then moved to Dover, DE; joining the Camden Society of Friends.
He was predeceased by his two brothers Robert Cook Folwell III and George Pennock Folwell.
He is survived by his wife Joan; two children Nathan and Denise; and three grandchildren Evan, Lauren and Nicole.
Nate Folwell's avocations included Genealogy, Forestry, and Boating. His wonderful sense of humor brought laughter to all who knew him, a quality present even in the last days of his life.
A Memorial service will be held on January 22, 2012 at Noon at the Camden Society of Friends; 122 Camden-Wyoming Avenue, Camden, DE. All who knew him are invited to attend.
