Notes for Gordon Sweat HARGRAVES
Gordon Sweat Hargraves, 84, a retired publishing executive, died Jan. 27 at Sonogee Estate in Bar Harbor, Maine. Formerly of Gladwyne, he lived in Bar Harbor.
Born in West Buxton, Maine, he graduated from Bowdoin College, where he was captain of the fencing team. He joined Curtis Publishing Co. in Philadelphia and then moved to Newsweek magazine, where he worked until he retired.
He and his wife, the late Nancy Bringhurst Sellers Hargraves, spent much of their married lives at Rockwood, a 42-room mansion in New Castle County, Del., that he helped to dedicate as a museum in 1976.
Surviving are his son, Gordon Sellers, and four grandchildren.
