Notes for Robert Randolph ROBINSON

Death of R. R. Robinson

Robert R. Robinson died on Wednesday afternoon at his late residence, 810 Market street. His death was not unexpected, as for some ten days past he was in a very feeble state. Being in the 81st year of his age, he was amongst the oldest citizens of Wilmington. Up to 1840 he had been very actively engaged in the tobacco business, and for 5 years afterwards he devoted more or less time and attention to it, but in that year he organized in connection with his son Jno. S., since deceased the banking house of R. R. Robinson & Co., at the northeast corner of Fourth and Market streets, where it still exists as amongst the most reliable banking firms.

Though his name has been used at the head of the firm, the business has been carried on by his only surviving son, Henry C. Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a gentleman of kindly manners, was affable and genial in conversation, and took great pleasure in contributing to the relief of the needy. Besides his son, Henry C., he leaves but one other child, a daughter, the wife of Stansbury J. Willey. His wife died some 12 or 15 years ago. The funeral will take place on Saturday next at 10:30 a.m. Interment in Wilmington and Brandywine Cemetery.
