Notes for Francis SMITH
Francis Smith made his will dated 26 April 1710 and died shortly after this date.
Note: Francis received a Lease and Release of Land for 500 acres in Bethel Twp, Pennsylvania on 9-10 Sept 1681. The first recorded survey of land on 6 March 1683 in Bethel was made based on his Lease and Release. The first road laid out in Bethel Twp, now called Bethel Road, in 1686 went through the lands of Francis Smith. Francis Smith later left Bethel Twp and founded Kennett Square, most likely named for his place of origin in England.
Note: Francis SMITH, colonial settler of Bethel Twp, Chester Co, Pennsylvania before 1683 from Devizes, Wiltshire, England, was a man of considerable wealth and education when he came to Pennsylvania.
