Notes for Joann BROSIUS

Joann Brosius Shoemaker of Kennett Township Joann Brosius Shoemaker, 87, died Monday July 23, 2012, at her home. She was the wife of Charles G. Shoemaker, with whom she shared 67 years of marriage. Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Walton Brosius and Anna Schmuck Brosius. She was a graduate of Wilmington Friends School, class of 1944. Joann was the flower arranger at Winterthur Museum for thirty years until 1983. During her tenure she was instrumental in creating the Yuletide at Winterthur program and a guest flower arranger at the White House. She was a grassroots fundraiser, founding Director and Board Chair 1984 - 1986 of Delaware Hospice, dedicated her time, resources and design talent as a Director of Friends' Home at Kennett from 1999 - 2010 and in 1990 was a member of the first Special Events Committee at Kennett Square's Bayard-Taylor Memorial Library. A charter member of Greenville Country Club where she loved playing tennis, Joann was a gardener, bridge player, member of the Wilmington Junior League, Kennett Seedlings Garden Club, and was active in Kennett Friends' Meeting. Survivors include her husband, two sons, Joseph (Jay) H. Shoemaker and his wife Colleen of Portland, Ore. and Peter B. Shoemaker of Townsend, Mass.; one sister, Christine B. Beh of Burlington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Andrew, Charles, Camilla, Sarah, Anna and Alexandretta; two great-grandchildren, Calvin and Tristen. Her son, Charles M. Shoemaker predeceased her. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, August 12, at the Kennett Friends Meeting 125 West Sickle Street, Kennett Square, PA 19348. Interment will be held privately.
