Notes for Peter MANNING-SMITH
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Peter Manning-Smith, M.B.E., 83, of 6017 Greenbriar Terrace, died Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2005.
He received one of the first Rotary Scholarship Awards in 1947, which he used to attend Harvard Business School. He graduated from there in 1949 with his MBA.
He was Rotarian for many years. The Philadelphia Rotary Club made him an honorary member in 2004.
He was a diplomat in the British Consular Service. He received the M.B.E. from Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in December 1976 for services to his country.
He is survived by his wife, Joy Lomax Manning-Smith; three sons, Geoffrey Manning-Smith, Jeremy Manning-Smith, and Courtney Manning-Smith; one stepson, James A. Polk; one sister, Hilary Godsmark of Coventry, England; and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. Chaplain Thomas Horst Sr. will officiate.
