Notes for Seth KINMAN

SETH KINMAN - (1815-1888) Frontiersman, Born 1815 near Uniontown, Pennsylvania, he moved to Illinois at 15 and in 1849 west to California but returned to Illinois for two years in 1850. He then took his family to Northern California where he became a market hunter; he claimed to have killed 800 grizzlies in Humboldt County. Kinman made several trips to Washington, D.C. presenting elkhorn chairs to Presidents from Buchanan to Hayes. Kinman accidently shot himself in the leg, the wound leading to amputation and ultimately his death. He was buried in Humboldt County, California.
