Notes for George SHOEMAKER

George Shoemaker (1792-1865). George ran President Thomas Jefferson's flour mills on property Jefferson owned called "Shadwell Mills." This property was adjacent to Monticello. Apparently, George didn't run the mills too well because Jefferson, in 1809, complained about the quality of the flour to George's father, John, and begged John to come down and run them.
