Notes for George III EMLEN

George Emlen, 3d, the elder, born Aug. 21, 1718, succeeded his father in the brewing business, and had a town house on Chestnut Street. He erected a country seat in the White Marsh Valley above Chestnut Hill, known as the Emlen House, where Washington had his head-quarters at one time in 1777. He signed the Non-importation Resolutions. Married Dec. 25, 1740, Anne Reckless, daughter of Joseph and Mary Reckless, of Chesterfield, N. J. Died Jan. 3, 1776. His widow died Feb. 4, 1816.

Trustees: Benj. Hooton, Joseph Bacon and Hezekiah Williams. No Exec. Letters of Admin: Ann, Geo., Caleb and Joseph Emlen.
