Notes for Mahlon Jenkinson BYE
Mahlon J. Bye was born in Philadelphia, but his parents, Pusey Passmore and Caroline (Speakman) Bye, soon moved to Primos, PA, where Bye also retained his residence in later years. The only record of training for Bye is in the Drexel Institute, where he received his Certificate in Architectural Drawing in 1900. Although he only appears in the Philadelphia city directories from 1910 to 1918, his office at that time was at 1003 Spruce Street, the same address as the office headed by Wilson Eyre. The only other reference to work undertaken while affiliated with an architectural firm is noted in Koyl's American Architects' Directory of 1956, where Bye is noted as residing in Ocean City, NJ and employed by Livingston Smith as a specifications writer, a position which he had held since 1946.
Bye joined the AlA in 1947.
