Notes for John BEESON
John Beeson , brother of Henry, and great grandson of the original emigrant, was a hunter and trapper by profession, and spent much of his time in eastern Ohio, in the unsettled districts. After his marriage, he moved his family to Kentucky and then to Tennessee, where they continued to reside during his long absences. he was a wealthy land holder, but he loved the woods and wild places where there were few, or no settlers.
One favorite hunting ground was the Mohican River in Ohio, and somewhere in that vicinity, a small lake bears the name of Mohican John's Lake in memory of his often having had his lodge on its shores. From one of his usual hunting trips, he did not return and his body was found by searchers near a deer lick. It was lying in the attitude of watching for a deer, with his rifle by his side.
