Notes for Abigail Ann PENNOCK
A newspaper article commemorating the 90th birthday of Abigail Pennock (married James Ballantine), Sarah Dubel's daughter, adds the following about their move from Ohio to Wisconsin.
Ten years later [i.e., 1853] the call of the west drew them to Wiconsin. The trip took about three weeks and was made in a covered wagon drawn by two span of horses. One seat in each wagon was equipped with springs. Mrs. Ballantine still remembers the corduroy road they traveled inspots and the dismal, rainy day they reached Millville, where relativeshad alreay preceded them [that would be Sarah's younger sisters Abigail and Rachel]. From Chicago to Mineral Point the party of sixteen went by train. The group included Mr. and Mrs. Pennock and six children,a brother with his wife and four children [This would be John Dubel and his sister-in-law Sarah P. Armstrong and John's four nieces and nephews, Sarah being the widow of John Dubel's brother Samuel. John did not marry Sarah P. Armstrong until 1857], and Mr. and Mrs. Aaron Tilman [this would be Sarah's oldest brother Aaron and an unknown wife].
