WILLIAM HAD BEEN A BIRTHRIGHT QUAKER BUT WAS DISOWNED. William was a runaway boy, eloped on a horseback with his wife Elizabeth. He was killed at the age of 56 by a blow to the head from behind when leaving a political meeting in Albany where he spoke in a heated debate.
