Notes for Nora O. HARTZELL
Nora O. Sachs, 93, formerly of Locust Avenue, Gettysburg, died Thusday at White Hall Nursing Home, Lancaster.
She was born in Cumberland Township, the daughter of the late Jeremiah T. and Olive (Plank) Hartzell. Her husband, Luther I. Sachs, died in 1962.
A former teacher of the piano, she was involved with music throughout her life, until recent years. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church; the church choir; and the Maude Miller Bible Sunday school class, where she served as program chairman and accompaniest.
As a member of the Gettysburg College Women's League, she served as chairman of its Golden Book Committee. She was a Republican committee woman for the first ward, first precinct. She worked as a bookkeeper for her husband's hardware store and for many years in his business as a building contractor.
She is survived by four sons, Rodney E. Sachs of Nazareth; Ross H. Sachs of Lancaster; Luther I. Sachs Jr.of Chambersburg; and Robert L. Sachs of Plymouth, N.H.; three daughters, Mindelle Lobbett of Long Beach, Calif.; Eva Orwig of Gettysburg; and Janice Edwards of Sarasota, Fla.; one brother, Howard Hartzell of Gettysburg; 19 grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Peters Funeral Home, with the Rev. E. Edward Keyser, officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. until time of services.
