Kathleen Thomas Empie of Cochranville

Kathleen Thomas Empie, 96, of Cochranville, passed away at home and entered into the presence of her Lord on Sunday March 13, 2005.
She was the widow of the late J. Carl Empie who passed away in 1981.
Born in Arendtsville, PA she was the daughter of the late Harry Hall Thomas and Mae Hartzell Thomas.
She grew up in Gettysburg, PA and graduated from the Gettysburg High School. She attended the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing in Philadelphia.
After her marriage in 1929, she resided in Carneys Point, NJ until 1944, at which time the family moved to a farm near West Chester, PA.
She became a member of the Calvary Lutheran Church in West Chester. In 1956 the family moved to a farm near Cochranville.
She soon became an active member of the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church where she served as deaconess, senior choir member and piano accompanist.
She was trained in classical music on the piano and she enjoyed playing for family and friends.
Her interests included gardening, music and reading but her main love was watching and identifying birds. She enjoyed her childrens' and grandchildrens' activities.
She is survived by two sons; John Empie and wife Lorraine and David Empie both of Cochranville, three daughters; Ruth Harshbarger and Carol Wright both of Cochranville, and Lois, wife of Bradley Self of Cleveland, TN, 20 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and one sister Helen Rigby of Wilmington, DE. She was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia Stoneback, wife of Alan Stoneback of Hulmeville.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday March 17, 2005 at 11:00am from the Faggs Manor Presbyterian Church, 505 Street Road (Route 926), Cochranville, Pa. with calling hours at the church from 10:00am to the time of the service.
Interment will follow in the adjoining cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in her memory to the Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607-3000.
